Google search results not displaying properly

I have just installed Windows 8.1, which changed my default home page from Google. I changed it back to Google but when I type in a search the results come up displaying one word per line. So, for example, if I search for Experts Exchange, where it would normally display:

Experts Exchange
Your Technology Questions Answered

I am now getting:

This layout then repeats down the page for every result.

Any thoughts on why this is happening and how to fix it?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

select "Compatibility View Settings" in Internet Explorer 11 "Tools"  and deselect "display sites in compatibility view" and "Use Microsoft's Compatibility List", also remove Google if it appears in the Compatibility View list.

ideas -

it could be a bad bit of cached info.  Clear the IE cache and then try again.

it could be a piece of software trying to get inbetween the web server and yourself to mess with the results (maybe add in advert info for its own sites or tell google you are click on its adverts so it gets adsense money.
a malware scan with something like Malware bytes or Spybot will check and clear this.
