I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Calling alert pauses JavaScript so you can't auto close it. The workaround is to make a pop up window or div. If you need code for that, let me know.

can it disabled before it is called?

What is it that you are trying to do that you think you need this kind if functionality?

Sure, just do the following

window.alert = function(){};

Open in new window

This will disable all window.alert() calls after you call that. If you want to re-enable the alert function you'll have to save it first. For an example, try the following code:

var alert_save = window.alert;
window.alert = function(){};
window.alert = alert_save;

Open in new window
