I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

The 'images' that they are referring to is from the Windows 8 DVD...its called boot.wim

Point 25 in his posting

25. You can use either a Windows 8 DVD or a Windows Server 2012 DVD, you will need to navigate to the sources directory, and locate Boot.wim > Open.

You need a Windows 8 DVD to get that...do you not have that? If not then you need to get one if you are deploying Windows8...needs to be a Volume license copy as well

You do not have to install the Automated Installation Kit (AIK) to make WDS work however this is the tool you use to build the answer files to allow unattended installs.

Easiest way is to get WDS installed and booting to the boot.wim. Once this works then add install images. Once you are happy the mechanism is in place then think about capturing images and/or using answer files etc.

Yes you can deploy Windows 8 and Windows 7. When you load the install images (install.wim from the OS DVD) you simply load one of each. When you boot to the server you will be given a choice of which OS to load.

ok then I will start first with installing the images win7 and win8.

just to be sure, WDS role is just to deploy images or capture images right ?

Correct. The images can be attended or unattended. If unattended then you will need to create an answer file using AIK. If you only have a few systems then its not a huge job attended.
