Real time replication Virtual machines

Currently i have VMware infra. are three hosts operated by ESXi 5.1  linked  single SAN storage.
Have any application can help to replicate those 20 opearing virtual machine to other ESXi hosts with real time.

I tried to operate this real time backup by Veeam 5.5 continuousy . But it will seriously affected original hosts and virual mahcine performance.

This process purpose to keep those virtual machines with real time copy on other host to avoid single storage failure risk. But' I don't have budget to purchase 2nd SAN storagre.

Thanks.

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

AppAssure and Datto both have features of this sort. Datto doesn't have an option to have a constant export but I know that AppAssure does and we have used it. You can have all your servers waiting and boot them if something happens.

You can accomplist the same thing with VMware but you will pay a ton of money for a Vcenter servere and all the licensing required to do it. That would be the smoothest option though.

Hi,

Thanks for advise.

I have used Appassure before and got not too good experience. It performance not good and can't fully exeecute bakup task. Moreover, it can't support real time continuity  backup. Also, the application is expensive. each virtual machine count for one license.

Could you explore more detail you mentioned vCenter solution?

ALL replication products which operate at the VM disk block level, that use snapshots, will give you thew same issue.

Hi SamuelLam1997, thank you for considering Veeam!

A couple of questions / comments:
Take a look at the latest version of Veeam Backup & Replication (version 7). There are significant improvements over version 5 and even version 6.5.
Where did you install your Veeam Backup Server? (separate physical machine, virtual machine on the same host, etc.). Which process mode did you use? (network, virtual applience, direct SAN).

VMware SRm can also assist with the same goal, although it needs to be carefully looked into.

Veeam backup and replication would  be most cost effective, but if you have no space, or additional disk, you are sort of limited to what you have $$/space and what you are able to achieve.

I mentioned in my first post that there are tools from VMware that can used with vCenter to accomplish the goal and that is what the closing comment entails.
