Hi Experts,

I started to use vs 2012 and just today tried to add for the first time in this IDE web service reference. The steps are easy just to go via menu and I can see when I discover myservice.asmx but when I click OK to add it I get error :

There was an error downloading metadata from the address. Please verify that you have entered a valid address.

My service is within same project where I am trying to add it and may be that's the issue but I doubt. Its something else and I would need your help.

Thanks a lot.

Try adding this to your web.config:
<serviceDebug includeExceptionDetailInFaults="true"/>

It will tell you the exact error.

Also ensure that you can hit the webservice from outside of VS.

EG:  http://localhost/mypath/WebService.asmx

Lastly try building the project / solution and then re-adding the reference.

Hi ged325,

<serviceDebug includeExceptionDetailInFaults="true"/>   in vs 2012 it is complaining its invalid tag.

I checked web service as a first step.

I am not doing WCF so that example is not really appropriate.

Thanks.

try putting ?wsdl at the end of the request, both as what you reference and what you browse to, let me know if that causes any errors.  I remember seeing that once before but forgot how I took care of it.
