I am asking for my 85 year old sister who is using a Mac leopard and has had it for more than 5 years.  She feels she wants to upgrade to the newest -->> probably she has the money to burn or just that her friends are josting with their new models.
Can the experts please suggest some upgrade solutions and also give me the links because I am an IBM user and have no clue on the Mac
thank u.

First you have to install snow leopard. Once that is done, you can install mountain lion and now Mavericks http://www.apple.com/osx/how-to-upgrade/

You can get snowleopard http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard online.    Once that is installed, you will have access to the app store where you can get mountain lion or mavericks.

The specs you need to know are http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/  To find the type of mac she has, click on the apple icon > About this Mac > More Info.  From there it might say something like iMac Early 2008.  That would fit the spec.  Below are the minimums needed per apple.

iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
Xserve (Early 2009)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
