database login vs windows authentica in navision

Anyone know the difference between logging on database authentication and windows authentication in navision

My question is there is server for the client and they have given db auth access to user to log in so is the user directly logging in to the nav database  and for windows is the user logging on to the server itself. Any help would be appreciated
