Can't Install Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client on Windows 8.1

I upgraded my laptop from Windows 8 to 8.1.  My Cisco AnyConnect client stopped working.  I uninstalled and am trying to reinstall it.  I am getting the error: "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package.  A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected.  Contact your support personnel or package vendor."

Try right click/properties (of the setup .exe or .msi) compatibility tab and then run in Windows 7 compatibility mode.

I just tried Windows 8, 7, and Vista SP2 modes with the same error message each time.
I use NCP Secure Entry (www.ncp-e.com) and I had to obtain a new version for Windows 8.1 even though my existing version works fine in Windows 8.

If you cannot get a Cisco client, you might consider NCP instead.

thinkpads_user:  Can you use NCP with a Cisco ASA firewall?
Yes.  Take a look at the product page for NCP and Cisco is listed. I use it with Juniper.

I trust that helps.  ... Thinkpads_User
The latest version of AnyConnect does work under 8.1. Please try the latest version.
I don't have access to the latest version.  My company does not pay for the SMARTnet subscription.

Thnkpads_User:  The NCP client also gave me an error when trying to install.  "Client LAN driver could not be installed."

The latest version didn't work.  I did a factory restore and upgraded to 8.1 first, then the latest version of AnyConnect installed and connected fine.

Thank you both.
@tjking45 - Thanks for the update. I just installed a new hard drive, upgraded to Windows 8.1 and the newest version of NCP works like a charm. Glad to hear you got AnyConnect working and a restore and upgrade.
