won't load operating system

Hi,

I have a Dell studio 1555 laptop. It had Vista on it at one time I wiped the hard drive, made one primary partition and formatted it as fat32.

When I put in a valid Windows XP SP2 CD, an ero comes up telling me to check the hard drive configuration. the error below appears

STOP: 0x00000007B  (Oxf78d2524, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0X00000000)

how come I cannot install an operating system? Is the hard drive bad??

thanks

It came with Vista so it is probably a SATA hard drive. XP will not load natively on a SATA hard drive. Go to the BIOS and see if you can set AHCI to compatibility mode. If you can do that, you might be able to load XP.

The question is: Why?  XP is dead, gone, finished.

Upgrade to Windows 7 instead. That would be a better solution here.
