How to install MDAC on my virtual machine?

I have a virtual machine with a program that I want to install on it to allow me to access a database of GUI templates, (in order to enhance Visual Studio C#). It says that before I can install it, I must install MDAC for Windows 7, which is 2.7+. I tried to find the file, but I am not sure if I found the right file, because what I found on the Microsoft website will not install on the machine. It does nothing.

Can anyone help with this?

Perhaps start with this Microsoft Support Article for Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC).

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/301202

My Windows 7 machine has version 6+  and my Windows 8 machine has a higher version 6.

Version 2.7 does not sound correct. The article above tells you how to find what version you have.

The next Microsoft Support Article has a download link for MDAC.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/data/aa937695.aspx

I hope this gets you started in the correct direction.

The article that I read said 2.7+, (which means anything greater than 2.7).

Why do I need to check the existing MDAC version? What function does that serve in the process?

The download article (I should have read it first) has MDAC 2.8 and lower but it is for XP and lower. You said you have Windows 7, so that is why 2.7 did not do anything.

Did you try V2.8 SP1?

Why do I need to check the existing MDAC version?

I don't know if you do. These were the two articles I found about it.

Also, have you done all optional updates on the VM, especially all .NET updates?
