I have a Catalyst 4500 switch that I have setup with kron for backups and now when I attempt to do a "sh run" command I get the error - "Unable to get configuration. Try again later."

Searching for this error I have found a link: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst4500/release/note/OL_24726.html

...which states that:
•When kron initiates a write to the startup-config (that is, execution of the write mem command), it is locked indefinitely.

switch# show run
Unable to get configuration. Try again later.
Workaround: Reload the switch to restore access, then use EEM with the timer event to schedule the required task. CSCtk68692

Question: Is there another work around without reloading the switch? Will rebooting the switch correct error without a reload?

reload = reboot. They are not suggesting that you blow away the configuration, just a reboot. If you are unable to show run, you might not be able to perform a "write mem"  prior to the reboot either so you might lose any recent unsaved changes. As long as you have an outage window opportunity, this should be a simple (but annoying) way to correct this issue for now.

reload=reboot is a relief. No problem on the "write mem" as I had done a tftp backup just prior to working on setting up kron.
