have a client with a windows 2000 server on old HW and legacy application that they use to run the company with no media to re-install the app
will be moving off it within a year but in the meantime need it running for current and historical data
looking for best way to get the server upgraded to newer HW and to new Windows server OS
been searching but haven't seen this scenario quite yet
was thinking of getting a backup via something like storagecraft and doing something along those lines and trying to upgrade via hyper-v???

all help is greatly appreciated

if you went with vmware you could convert to a virtual machine

before attempting any 2012 installation i would verify with the vendor the application would even work.  you can't do in-place upgrade to 2012

thank you seth2740
we are not as up to speed with VMware as we are with Hyper-V
do you have the steps needed for VMware?
a migration to windows 2008 server right now would be a serious plus
