I received the update Service Pack 2 for Microsoft Office 2010 (KB2687455) 32-Bit Edition, late yesterday night -
Since starting the machine this morning, every time i start excel or word i get a message - please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Office Single Image 2010

un-install/re-install has not solved the issue, now even MS Outlook is going through the same process

Try an Office Repair. Go to Control Panel, click on Microsoft Office, Change and Repair.
If a repair does not work, uninstall Office, restart, install Office again (Full, not Typical except for languages you do not use), update SP1, then SP2 and patch fully.
Also make sure all Windows 7 optional updates have been done. Some of the .NET Framework updates may still be sitting in Optional.
