Hi, I am using 2012 Hyper V on 2 host servers with the idea of replicating the vm's from one host to the other host using builtin replication.

The 2 hosts are in standalone workgroups and the replication was failing with permission errors, i had to join the hosts to the domain for this to work but didnt want to do this really as the dc's are virtual on the host server.

Is there away of doing this with the host servers in workgroup ?

Thanks,
Craig

There is no requirement for Hyper-V servers to be domain joined, it can be configured for Workgroup Mode, by the use of Certificates.

e.g. For Workgroup security, authentication must be configured using a certificate.

Ok thanks for that, i also had similar errors when using a windows storage server to host the vm's when in a workgroup i was unable to create the vm as i understand it it uses the host computer account to create the vm but as the windows storage and host were in a workgroup they didnt know about each others computer account, is there away for thos to work as well ?

Thanks,
Craig

I would attach the Storage Server via iSCSI.
