For many HP deskjets Windows already includes the drivers itself, or they are available via Windows updates. So just connect the printer and check whether the system automatically installs it.

There are many different Deskjet models and it really matters in terms of finding a driver. So please let us know the model number. It should be on a label on the printer. For example, it might say something like HP Deskjet 1000 CH340A#B1H.

@al4629740  - Go to Devices and Printers, Add a Printer, Local Printer, Existing Connection and Next.  See the Windows Printer Update beside Have Disk.

Click on Windows Printer Update and allow the updates to complete. This will take few minutes. When complete, cancel out, restart and now try to add the printer. The Deskjet Drivers should be there.

I put a DeskJet 812 on Windows 7 this way.

@al4629740  - I gave you instructions for updating the list of drivers. Did you do that yet?  The Deskjet 460 driver is in the list of HP drivers on my Windows 7 machine.

some hp drivers you download do not automatically install so you have to manually install them.  After you unzip the folder you have to pay attention to what folder it is unzipped to (write it down if you need to). Once you have successfully unzipped the folder, you will manually install the drivers. See Thinkpads instructions above 39615015
