TadTerminal using Delphi

I am using async pro comport and trigger available to grab the returned data from the com port, then processing the string to make sense of it. If I drop a TadTerminal onto the form the received data is already formatted and displayed  in the terminal window. Is there any way of reading the terminal strings directly as this will save the fiddly bit of processing the string from the buffer?
