1 month old new PC.  Outta the box everything set up perfectly including wifi to Uverse located next room over (PC I am communicating on now).

Yesterday I got a request to update 8.0 to 8.1.  Like an idiot I said OK.  I assume update occurred,,,,now I cannot access internet.  System says Ethernet cable not plugged in,, I don't have/use Ethernet cable.  For some reason it won't give me a wireless option.

Last but not least I am new to 8.0 and not very good with it yet much less 8.1

Hope someone can help.  How do I get internet access after this update?

If the computer is very new, the upgrade to Windows 8.1 should have worked. I installed Windows 8 on a new hard drive, updated drivers and Windows updates and then installed Windows 8.1. It is working smoothly as I type here.

Go to the manufacturer's web site and get new drivers for:  Chipset, Video, wired NIC and wireless NIC. Download them (on another computer) and install them on this problem computer.

If there is a BIOS update, grab it and update the BIOS.

Do those thing and please let us know.

Getting on the internet is about the same for Windows 8.1 as for Windows 8.

Another thing to try / consider once you have done the above is a TCP/IP Refresh.

Here is a Microsoft Support link that provides detailed instructions for the refresh.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/299357

That may also help.
