I have a Hyper-V server 2012 installed. I do NOT have server 2012 installed, only the core install witrh no gui and powershell. I created a VM with the following script :

New-Vm -Name Server2012 -MemoryStartupBytes 4096MB -Path D:\ws2012.local

I then Created a new VHD with and connected it with :
New-VHD -Path D:\ws2012.local\server2012\server2012.vhdx
Add-VMHardDiskDrive -VMName server2012 Path D:\ws2012.local\server2012\server2012.vhdx

After connecting an iso of server 2012 and starting up the VM, how do i access the desktop to start the installation? See attached screenshot. Do i need to specify a static IP beforehand to assign to the new vm so i can rdp into it?

You will get the RDP session once the OS is installed on VM and RDP option is enabled.

To take VM console session, you should install Hyper-V management tools on a Windows 7 or Windows 8 desktop and then connect the HyperV server.
