Autocomplete text field

Good morning,

I am trying to add an autocomplete text field on my users profile page. This field is for adding the place where each user is from. Could you please help me to do this? I´ve been looking around and see that Taxonomy term could be a good option or entity reference. Not sure how to use them, but I need to know what would be a good approach since I have very few time to finish the whole site.

You are right.
Make sure taxonomy is enabled.
Make sure you have a vocabulary.

In the node type you are working with, go to Manage Fields.
Add a new field
Under field type select Term Reference
Under Widget, select Auto Complete term widget (tagging)
save
On the next screen select the vocabulary you want to use.
save the settings. There are other field settings you can set as desired.

What this will do:
When someone creates/edits the node the text field will be in the form.
As the person types, a list of autocomplete options appears.
If the term they are typing isn't in the list, nothing shows in the autocomplete and the new term will be added to the vocabulary.

If you want to use a controlled vocabulary, do everything above but use the select list, or the radio button/check box.
