Wordpress Category Strategy
I'm developing a site for a furniture store. It will convert an osCommerce site into WooCommerce. This part has been done bringing in 2000 plus items. The old version of the site has many erroneous categories so I need to tidy them up. I'm thinking of splitting the furniture by room type - class of furniture - type of furniture. For example Dinning Room - Table & Chairs - Dinning Tables.
I also need to add a brand to the furniture. So each item will come under to main categories.
For example the end product will be a 'Neptune' 'Dinning Table'
The old site had over 400 categories, many repeats so I want to make sure the new site has an efficient category strategy as possible both for listing products and obviously for site visitors to find what they want effiiciently. My only option as I see it at present is to delete all the old categories and start a fresh so I want to make sure I use the right category strategy. I would welcome any feed back and guidance with the above, whether you consider it right or whether I should do it another way. Any tips or recommendations you can share are most welcome.
