This is a temporary solution (probably), my question pending (2013-11-05 at 16:15:59 ID28285892Tags:

Provides more information, basically I only have remote access to the server and it appears that Backup Exec 2012 probably needs a hotfix to be installed but a pre-requisite to this is that Service pack 1a needs to be applied. I am trying to ascertain whether or not the service pack is already included in Backup exec 2012 which was only purchased and downloaded from Symantec within the last 2 months. Live update indicates that Backup Exec 2012 is up to date bur does this mean that service pack 1a is installed ?
The About information shows the version to be 14.0 Revision 1798 (64-bit) but does not mention any service pack level.
Even when I have this information, I am loathed to perform this update remotely on a live server (the client only has one server), especially as the Disk space on the server is exceptionally low.

With regard to your reference 1) in your reply, I have searched the C: drive where Backup Exec 2012 is installed and cannot find "bemcmd", maybe Backup Exec 2012 does not provide this functionality ?

On previous versions the updates were visible through Help -> Install Updates or in Control Panel-> Add and remove programs.

But for BE2012, click on Backup Exec button located at the extreme top left corner -> Installation and Licensing -> Installed updates.

By this way you can check the updates and the Hotfixes.

Sorry, bemcmd is not supported any more for BE 2012, he has been replaced for BEMCLI.

But for using BEMCLI you will need powershell 2.0, please follow this guide to set it up with powershell -> Preparing your Powershell environment to run BEMCLI and scripts

And for erasing the tape before, in your case you could add a script to run first the pre-command, you can see an example here- >BEMCLI cmdlets as pre/post commands

Hope this can help you.
