unified messaging exchange 2010 questions

I have an exchange 2010 environment. Im just now hearing about unified messaging, i understand it ties into voip. Do i have to have certain phones or a service, or can i build and utilize it with voip phones myself?

yes to deploy unified messaging you have to deploy  Microsoft Lync server,

to comunicate with external phones you need to have IP PBX,

yes there are hand devices, as well as soft phones avail ...

about the Unified messaging,

it's a Audio, video, chat, Data comunication along with sharing files applications etc.
on single console.

like hotmail messenger...
