im using citrix netscalers to load balance 2 front end 2008 servers that point to my sql back end and data servers
how can i tell how many users have been directed or running on each front end server
i would like to find out exactly how many users are on each server and if they are load balanced correctly

You can use Citrix Command Center. Specifically, you will want to use NetScaler SNMP counters polled from Command Center. The counter that is related to your question if I understood correctly would be:

Virtual Server Counter - Current server connections: This will return the number of current connections to the real servers behind the vServer.

If you have platinum edition you can utilize EdgeSight monitoring on load balancing for NetScaler (with enterprise edition you will have limitation on the features available on EdgeSight). Check this:

Command Center is a hardware appliance. There is also a software release of it (not free). However, you can get the evaluation copy of it from http://mycitrix.com.

Oh, you will still need to have at least NetScaler Enterprise edition for using Command Center with it.

Check if GSLB feature is available or not. If it is available then you must have an Enterprise edition or later.

Well, you can go and create your own individual account with MyCitrix.com and download the evaluation copy - though I have to admit that I don't know whether such evaluation copies will be available for such accounts. Give it a try.

If you still can't get hold of such tools to check the load balance, you could either approach your network team to monitor the traffic and report to you a rough (perhaps accurate) estimate of their findings, or you can ask some in-house developer to create a kind of program (doesn't have to be complicated, just a simple script) which will monitor the network traffic on each server during a period of time and provide you with counters and results on both so that you can compare.
