HP 3PAR Virtual Copy Software is responsible for the snapshot operation.

500 - of which 256 can be read/write, per volume.

Thanks, so 500 is per volume limitation only?
Is there any other limitations for the whole storage?

Did you go with 3PAR in the end? We would love to hear your views on it on our peer review site, www.ITCentralStation.com. This user discussed a new feature that allows a 3PAR array to move its snapshots directly to the StoreOnce VTL! This is called HP StoreOnce Recovery Manager Central. No backup software and no complexity. You can read his full review here: http://www.itcentralstation.com/product_reviews/hp-3par-flash-storage-review-31814-by-enrico-signoretti
