User change its alias name under Gmail

Dear Experts,

I am managing Gmail accounts for our company, as you know under gmail to create email address, first name, last name and email address required to fill.  one of our users that has email at our domain sent an email with his alias (first name, last name) section changed to something else, which is our company name.

can you tell me how this was done, is it a real security threat or any one can do that?

From the description given it sounds like the user has changed the display (from) name for the account.

I'm not sure on Google business (only briefly looked at it once) but on standard Gmail this can be done by going to:

Settings > Accounts > Click Edit Info next to the account in question and then this allows you to change the display name to anything you like.

As far as I'm aware this is not a security problem (unless the user is able to access the top-level Google account for all users) and I believe users can do this on their own account but not other users (unless they know the user's login details).

Hope this helps.
