asked on

favourites bar ie9 issue

hi i logon normally via my win 2003 domain via my win 7 laptop usually.

note: when i wish to save links i add them to my favourites and can save them via the (export) featuress successfully

question 1.  the issue i have is when i open my internet browser and select (add to favourites bar) it does save on the top left as most recent unless i save other links.  so i then do (export for: favourites, feeds & cookies) successfully.  but as i have created another domain user account that has also logged onto the same win 7 laptop successfully i have imported the previously save (favourites) successfully but the (favourities bar) links have not saved - why and how do i fix this  ?

hi, no i can see the favourites bar with previous entries as it has been quite a few weeks, but i have been ignoring it and copying my links manually to word and adding them manually again, but now trying to realise why..
mikey250----I am not sure I understand.  New additions to the Favorites Bar must be added manually.
hi,  i have save my favourites as usual, but as i have copied new url links (just) to my favourites bar and exported and saved.  i then logged on with new domain user account and it does not show new favourites added.. and not sure why.. ?

hi i can see my previous favourites bar  links across the top as expected.

if i click on favourites menu i can see the following:

- add to favourites
- add to favourites bar
- add current tabs to favourite - not sure what this is for unless this is what i should have done before exporting.

i will try and see because i cannot see no sub folder within teh favourites folder.

yes the new user has exactly what i have accept for those (new url links i specifically saved only on the favourites bar!
i have just logged onto my old domain account on same win 7 laptop but when i clicked on the favourites menu:

- add to current tabs to favourite - was dimmed out so i am not sure what this is for.

normally i would save url links i wish to keep, by creating a folder and storing them inside as usual, but then i realised i could just select (add to favourites bar) so i have been doing this ever since.  and if i click on the >> on the top right of the screen, it then shows me a list of all my links saved via the favourites bar, but when i look at the top which should be the most recent and scroll to the bottom, i cannot see those newest links added anywhere, even thought exported and imported successfully.

morning, yes i have now selected via my new domain account  "add current tabs to favourite" and yes it adds my favourites bar into a folder - the only thing i do not like is it does not keep them in the order i found them because it puts them all in alphabetical order..!!

when i logon with my old domain user account the "add current tab to favourite" is dimmed and i am not sure either.

yes i have over a 100's of links saved in folders, but for convenience i have been using the (favourites bar).. although yes i realise not ideal when looking for it months later so putting in a folder is preferred.

question 1.  is there any other way of saving the favourites bar separately and then importing them into my domain account  since the "add current tab to favourites" is dimmed  ?

question 2.  if i save my favourites when i logon locally to my pc, can i then add import these same favourites into my domain account when i logon to the domain with my other domain user account  ?

I am not 100% sure I understand what you are trying to do.  The answer to both questions may be to realize that Favorites is a Folder and Favorites Bar is a subFolder in Favorites.  You therefore can move any items in either Favorites or Favorites Bar around by dragging and dropping.

"is there any other way of saving the favourites bar separately "  Similarly, since the Favorites Bar is a subfolder you can "save" it in the normal way you would save any folder.
hi jcimarron,

i have just read my last comment and yes it was a little confusing...apologies.

- when i logon via my old domain user account on same win 7 laptop the (add to favourites bar is dimmed) - however i exported my favourites as usual - successfully.

- i then logged on via new domain user account on same win 7 laptop and imported previous updated favourites  - successfully. also for some unknown reason the (favourites bar) was not dimmed - oh well

- i then imported my most recent favourites into my previous imported favourites and then scrolled down and located the (favourites bar folder) with my most recent favourites bar url links added - but what i realised is that they were all put in alphabetical order and when i viewed the physical favourites bar, it was (not showing my most recent favourites bar url) as it had also (added them in the drop down list on the right of the screen where i select: >> those 2 arrow symbols and there i found in alphabetical order my most recent.  - it would have made sence for microsoft to ensure it at least stops in the order found i think..!!

hi yes i already have 100s of links in my own categorized folders, but over the last few months i have stopped that and just been adding them to the favourites bar because i was lazy and it was convenient, but now i realise my error when trying to look for a specific subject as i now have to scroll through every individual favourites bar link i saved.

however i have just selected a random url link from my favourites bar and right clicked and selected (sort by name) and it has now disappeared but where has it gone  ?

"however i have just selected a random url link from my favourites bar and right clicked and selected (sort by name) and it has now disappeared but where has it gone  ?

If all you did was to click on that URL and click "Sort by Name, the URL  should still be in the Favorites Bar folder but sorted alphabetically.  If not, run a Search for it.
yes your right it was, i thought it had disappeared. either way they are also already in alphabetical order anyhow.

thanks
thanks for advice.  appreciated.!!!
