My OS is win 7 prof 64 bit and I have iTunes where I have copied a CD of MP3 files.  I also have Sony Sound Forge ver 10.0.  I would like to play one of the MP3 files in iTunes, and then using Sony Sound Forge I would like to record portions of the file that is played in iTunes.  Hope the experts can please point out any tutorial or how to do this.  Thank u.

It seems to me that you can edit a copy of the MP3 file directly in Sound Forge without recording it.
