I think this is a popular problem, but Windows 8 sees the Mic 3.5 jack input as Line-In (Microphone says 'Unplugged') and consequently the input volume drops off the scale. <br />
Its an old desktop Dell for what that's worth.<br />
I've uninstalled the sound card drivers/gone to Dell's site and got their 'Update Drivers' app, etc etc, but nothing.
