MSOutlook and Outlook Anywhere.

If I understand the purpose of  Outlook Anywhere is to enable users to use all the feature of MSOutlook without being connected through VPN to the company.

I have seen an environment, where users can use regular MSOutlook without  being connected to the VPN, all they needed is Internet connection.

I wonder what can of set up they did to get MSoutlook work just like Outlook Anywhere?

Any idea ?

Thanks

Sorry I was busy doing other things.

But when there are many users, how would you configure that with one shot.
are there any GPO settings that can accomplish that ?

Thanks

There aren't GPO settings that I'm aware of that would configure these settings but you can script it and have the GPO call a logon script.

See this link for a suggested approach on this... http://justemail.blogspot.co.uk/2009/01/gpo-to-set-rpc-over-https-in-outlook.html

It's not something I've scripted as the number of users we have that use RPC/HTTPS is fairly small so configuring this manually (or giving the user a guide to do it themselves) is sufficient.

So what is the difference between Outlook anywhere and the one you configured?

Nothing. What you are seeking to do is configure Outlook using RPC over HTTPS, which enables users to connect Outlook to their mailbox using only Outlook and an internet connection. No VPN involved. My understanding is that your original question sought this solution.

Do you need to undertake something other than this, or are you more interested in a way to more efficiently deploy those settings to a large number of users (something which was missing from your original request)?

Not only I need to deploy it to multiple users, but I also want to understand the difference between Outlook Anywhere and the configuration you provided.

There is no difference. RPC/HTTPS was renamed Outlook Anywhere as of Outlook 2007. If you wish to deploy to multiple users (not part of your initial query) you should script this and roll it out using Group Policy. The link above should help in that regard.
