Script to control Windows Application

We have this program that will stop allowing people to login unless someone goes to the server and does a backup of the program's DB once every 30 days.  It gets a little annoying and if someone forgets to do it when the people who have server access are out, it can make for a long day.

How hard is it to write a script that does:

1.  Start AppName.Exe
2.  Click Tools on the menu.
3.  Select Database backup.
4.  Click Start.
5.  Wait for the app to finish, then Exit.

It's a pretty old app, but we have it running on Server 2012.

Appreciate any insight.  I see many possible solutions out there, some free, some not so much.  In my younger days I was a VB person, and I can almost see how to do this in VB (Using maybe the Alt - T for Tools, etc).

I have no religion when it comes to programming languages!!

Yes, you can use something like AutoIt for that: http://www.autoitscript.com/site/autoit/
