SQL Server - Backup server

Dear Experts,

Currently we have SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition installed in a dedicated server.

Now we are planning to have a one more server as a backup server. So that if the primary server down users can continue to get the database access through the proposed new server.

I am newbie for the replication concepts.  Please advice a suitable solution for our requirement.

Thanks in advance,

Regards,

Tajudeen.

Hi shaiksaj,

Thank you for your reply. I will go through the link.

Also we are planning to place the server in a different location. There is a leased line connectivity exists to the new location.

So I would like to know is it possible to implement the clustering.

Thanks,

no you cant make cluser over leased lane

it's only on premises... by sharing same storage...

Hi Shaiksaj,

I am able to ping the computer which is in the other network (connected through leased line).
And I am able to take its remote desktop (using mstsc command).

Eventhough we can not make clusting ?

Expecting your reply.

Thanks in advance.

Greetings,

see the Overview of AlwaysOn Availability Groups (SQL Server)... the latest concept in SQL server...

the technical term in SQl2012 is " AlwaysOn Availability Groups (SQL Server) "

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff877884.aspx

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff877884.aspx

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff878487.aspx

but in the earlier version for (Synchronous Database between 2 storages)... which means both servers are active active... that must have a Gigabit connectivity link between both servers sites upto 5 milli seconds latancy...  thats what mostly environments uses these type of scenarios in the Lan system... or till where there network can fullfill the above pre requisites ( 1 Gb netword connectivity, upto 5 milli Second latancy)  which will do load balancing as well...

here data loss chances are approximately nothing but highly expensive..

related to asynch technology,

asynch technology that can be performed at storage levels... where the database replicated to the destination storage with any kind of bandwidth, any destination, ...

here the last updated snapshot can be restored...

that means there are Dataloss chancess but a for a small time ...

any how the latest technology in SQL2012 .. is the best proven for small size and medium sized organizations...

all the best

regards
