Evernote is not based on sorting and searching alphabetically but rather on words it finds inside documents like Word or pdf's and tags if you prefer to add them.

So if you already have some alphabetical classing inside your word file you can add the file to Evernote and try to search by that way, but it would have to be something like A_ or A#, something that would distinguish it from other A's in the file.

Another way could be that you added every quote or story to Evernote and used A, B, C,.. as tags. That way you would get all the B's stories in the search.

Get Evernote, it's free, and try it out for few stories and quotes and try it out. I recommend using tags if you want searches grouped that way but Evernote will be able to search for anything that is in a clip or note.

I don't know your system, but if you are looking for something that you want to strictly file as individual text files you might want to try out something else.

As an example, I use Simple Note (http://simplenote.com) for all my text based needs. It's an iPhone/iPad/Android app, desktop version for MacOsX 10.8 and up, and you can access every snippet online in a browser. Everything free.

You can also use all kinds of free note applications on mac or a pc to access the files in the cloud. I personally use one called nvALT.

Searching is not categorized unless you add some tag to every note. I use #tag if I think I will need some further search string, but usually searching for particular words that I expect to find in my notes.
