so for the driver , I need to install : ScanSnap Manager  V4.2L14 ?  I mean for scanner to be recognized.
Thanks , ,
I don't know if that's the right version number, but, YES, the proprietary Fujitsu drivers are installed as part of the ScanSnap Manager. Read the "Compatibility Status For Windows® 7 ScanSnap S510" page carefully:
http://www.fujitsu.com/global/support/computing/peripheral/scanners/ssfaq/win7_s510.html

In particular, note this comment:
If you cannot install the ScanSnap software in the bundled CD to 64-bit Windows® 7, please fill out and send us the Download Request Form for ScanSnap Setup Programs. You will receive a link to a download site by e-mail. The ScanSnap setup software from that site can be installed to 64-bit Windows® 7. After installing the software, apply the software update.
Also, look at the known issues for the ScanSnap Manager, which sound similar to your situation:

ScanSnap tray icon remains crossed out (unavailable) even when the ScanSnap cover is opened to be turned on.

The scanner may not be recognized by the PC when the user logs in after the Windows® 7 login window was left displaying for a few minutes.

The scanner may not be recognized by the PC and the ScanSnap tray icon remains crossed out (unavailable) when the user logs in as a Guest user.

NO! Windows scanning utilities require a WIA driver, which Fujitsu does not provide for the entire ScanSnap series. You can't even use other third-party scanning utilities, all of which require some kind of industry-standard scanning driver, such as ISIS, SANE, TWAIN, WIA. Fujitsu provides none of these for the ScanSnap scanners! The only way you can scan with a ScanSnap is via Fujitsu's proprietary scanning driver that is included with the ScanSnap Manager. Your screenshot is not a Scanner Prompt. It is the list of Profiles available for scanning, probably from an earlier version of the software. Mine (likely a later version) looks like this (for an S1500, not S510):

Sorry...missed this comment when you posted it. By now you know that the answer is NO, because a standard driver (TWAIN, WIA, etc.) is not available, and this is what Acrobat Pro or Acrobat Std or other third-party apps or Windows apps require in order to scan. Regards, Joe
Figured out the prompting issue ,

Had to ENABLE = QUICK MENU.

Thanks all , ,

Good one! Never tried that, as I always have the scanner's scan button utilize my preferred Profile. But that is an excellent find!

In terms of the other issue, the bottom line is that the only way to scan with a ScanSnap scanner is with the ScanSnap software. I know it's not what you want to hear, but that's the deal! Regards, Joe
