DFS across two offices, domains and OS versions!

hi guys,

Have a setup where the client has a SBS 2003 box at one site which holds most of their files, and they have been VPN'ing into it (standard windows dialup VPN tool) to access the shares.   The second office now has a Server 2012 machine as they bought it having decicided to keep the files they worked on in that office local instead of VPNing to the head office.

Turns out they actually still want people in both offices to be able to see the files at both offices so im looking at DFS as a cheap solution.

Currently each office exists totally seperately with its own domain.  Head office has a SBS2003 box with the file shares.  Branch office has a Server 2012 box.

questions :

1.  Can DFS replication be configured across two seperate offices which have their own domains (i think yes if you establish a trust domain relationship?)
2.  is a site to site VPN required (I am guessing yes?)
3. can DFS replication work between a SBS2003 box and a Server 2012 box, and considering they are on seperate domains?

thanks :)

Nathan
