I have a customer who has found their original box containing MS Office Home and Student 2007 in their home.

There question is, how can they know if all 3 license are used?

And also, what actually technically happens if it were to be installed a 4th time?

Thanks all for any help.

Robbie.

When you try to activate the software, if it is over the allotment of activations, you will be prompted to call Microsoft to activate it manually. They will be asked how many computers it is currently on. If you have it currently active on three computers, they will not allow you to activate. If you legitimately have it installed on less then 3 then they will give you another activation. They do not have an uninstall mechanism so once you activate three times, even if you do it on the same computer, you will have to call it in from then on.

This is not a big deal unless you are attempting to actually skirt around the licensing quantity. At some point, they will deny the activations completely if you have activated the key code many times beyond three but I could not tell you at what number that decision is made.
