Can't connect to Hotmail from Outlook and iOS after password change

I recently changed my Hotmail password and can successfully connect to Hotmail via the hotmail.com website itself.

However, prior to this I was also accessing my Hotmail account through Outlook 2013 and also through iOS on my iPhone 5.  Now, both of these cannot successfully log in to Hotmail saying that the password is incorrect.

In Outlook, I have tried removing the Hotmail account altogether and adding it back in but it still cannot log in.  I have tried a similar thing on my iPhone to no avail.

Curiously, neither Outlook or iOS can connect using the old password either.

How can I get Outlook and iOS to log into Hotmail again?

I have discovered that this was being caused by me activating 2-step verification on my Hotmail account.  Once activated, the actual Hotmail password only works on the Hotmail site itself and all other applications need "special" passwords which can be generated in the account settings of Hotmail.  I generated such a password for Outlook and one for iOS and I can now connect both to my Hotmail account.

I will now accept my own comment as the solution :-)

Try this remove the accounts from both Outlook and Hotmail.  Next shut the phone down, completely power off.  Wait a minute.  Restart phone. Reload Hotmail with new password.   Since the upgrade it seems that at times when making changes we have to shut the phone down to activate like you do on a PC.

Can you connect using Safari browser on the iPhone? Are you using the same url for Outlook and iPhone mail?
