Same DNS Server listed twice in DNS Manager

I recently installed windows server 2012 R2 in my lab and made it a dc with dns etc. When I look in the DNS manager, I see two entries for the same server; one with the hostname and one with the FQDN.

Example:
DC1
DC1.domain.com

I don't see any issues with this so far but was curious as to what caused this. Does it have anything to do with ipv4 and ipv6? Thanks.

Thank you Sand, but I have followed those best practice before hand but seem to still see the duplicate. I will delete the one that is not the FQDN, since the other dns server is listed once by FQDN. Thanks again.

cmetcalf202,

I have the same issue, did deleting the non-FQDN entry work? Anyone else have thoughts on this?

Thanks
