I receive the following message when attempting to re-attach a VHD in Server2012 Server Essentials. "The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process"
Need assistance with this issue.

That would mean the VHD is either attached to another running virtual machine or it is open on the host server (attached locally).

It could also mean that you have antivirus software on the server and you have not disabled the scan on the VHD files.
