i realzie it is not apples, but just wanted to understand relatively speaking..

what will be the equivalent of an i3/i5/i7 in the android lineup today?

Android is an operating system -- not a processor.   Android tablets can use ARM processors, MIPS processors, or x86 CPU's, including the Core i3/5/7 units.

The fastest current Android tablets use the Intel Core i7 ... but it's hard to find one with that combination, since most tablets with that level of performance are now shipping with Windows 8.    Here's a prototype of an Android tablet with an Ivy Bridge i7 CPU:
