Carbon Copy Cloner is a long-time, tried and tested OSX backup/cloning software.  It was FREE but now is a commercial package but still is one of the best.  It can do full backups and incremental backups. - http://www.bombich.com/

An alternative to CCC is SuperDuper! - http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html

OSX comes with TimeMachine backup software which works well for system backups and includes incremental file backups.  Since TimeMachine was introduced the need to have other backup software on a typical OSX installation has decreased as TimeMachine meets most standard users requirments.
