Hello,

We have a client with a huge mailbox and a poor broadband connection at his office.
He uses Outlook Anywhere at home but we're having problems with the mailbox syncing due to the size of it, he wants to use cached exchange mode etc.

Rather than archive to PST I would like to use the Exchange Archiving to archive anything older than a year. This will decrease the size of his mailbox tenfold.

Is it possible to stop the Online Archive showing and downloading over Outlook Anywhere but allow it to be accessible when in the business office?

Many thanks
Arran

A Personal Archive in Exchange 2010 will not be accessible offline, this means the user has to be connected to an Exchange server in order to connect to the archive mailbox. So the default behaviour would be as you require.

"Personal archive mailbox accessible in cached mode

The statement "Users can access an archive mailbox in online mode only" is a little misleading, because it can easily be interpreted that Outlook clients must be configured to use online mode in order to access the personal archive mailbox, whereas, the personal archive mailbox is accessible when an Outlook client is configured to use cached mode. However, in order to do so, Outlook must be actively connected to Microsoft Exchange and not in a disconnected or offline state."
