Visio 2010 - Default Drawing Size

Is there a recommended proper drawing size?
I'm using 8 1/2" x 11" but I've had friends tell me that I should be using 11' x 17"

What are you drawing? What kind of paper are you printing to?

Keep in mind that you can always scale output to match the target paper, or you can tile large pages across several sheets of smaller paper. It's quite flexible, but also sometimes confusing.

So there are two variables: Visio page size and printer paper size. With the Page setup dialog you have a lot of flexibility to get just the output you want. I think if you're doing architectural drawings with lots of detail, it might be good to work on 11" x 17", so that you can get plenty of stuff on the page at a reasonable drawing scale (another variable!). But in theory, it doesn't really matter.

Yeah, if they are complicated, it might be easier to set the Visio page size to 11" x 17", then fit to print on "1 page across by 1 page down" to fit a single sheet of printer paper. If the diagrams aren't too complicated, stay with the defaults.
