Visio - 2010 - how to concatenate fields

I'm trying to have my current filename AND it's current directory path appear in the same field.  How can I do this?

Hi Bt,

You can do this one of two ways: insert two fields in the text of the shape, or use the custom formula field at the very bottom of the insert field dialog, left column.

You can insert multiple fields into the text of a shape. You just have to get into text-edit mode by double-clicking, selecting the shape and pressing F2, or using the text tool. Then you can place your cursor anywhere in the text and insert more fields. You can mix with hand-typed text as well.

Or you can make one big formula by choosing "Custom Formula" from the field list. Here's a big formula that labels and shows the directory and filename on two separate lines:

="Directory: " & DIRECTORY() & CHAR(10) & "Filename: " & FILENAME()

CHAR(10) is how you make a new line, and "&" is the concatenation operator.

Note that DIRCTORY() and FILENAME() and CHAR() are ShapeSheet functions. You have to know these functions (or at least guess a bit and let the intellisense help you) . There's no pick list for building custom formulas.
