Outlook Appointment/Meeting/All Day Event

Outlook uses Appointment/Meeting/All Day Event, when I open them up, they look the same to me.

I am not sure when to use one and not the other.
Any help?

Thanks

Appointment - Created as an individual statement or necessary reminder you are going to be somewhere or need to start something.

Meeting - Involves more than just yourself and typically multiple users have this populated or if you create one you can send the invitation to multiple contacts to be included when scheduling.  If the meeting leader makes an update, all users who accept the meeting will receive the updates.

All Day Event - Literally blocks out the entire day.  I use this if I was to be on vacation, a different location (remote site), sick, holiday etc.

they look the same to me.

they all have start -End time, subject , invite attendees, and the body of the message.
you can check the All day event  box.

the similarities are confusing...I do not know if there is something behind that

Its more of an availability option so this way you don't have to go back and remake it and can update it on the fly etc.

Example:  You have an appointment on your calendar which you are using as a reminder for yourself to go talk with HR, Something comes up where you are going to be considering other people involved, so instead of removing your individual appointment you can turn it into a meeting and send invites.

If you just double-click on an empty spot on your calendar you are opening a blank template, if you right-click and choose all day event but it turns out it wont be you can change it.

Appointment just contains the subject field

Meeting gives you the option to send and adds the To: field

All Day event displays at the top of your calendar and if you add a color category you will see it puts a blanket over the entire day.

When you create new Appointment, let's say to Haul some boxes, then you invite someone else to help you, then it will look just like creation new meeting or all day event

Yes it will change itself so you have less of a hassle updating it on the fly.  And of course you will then send invitations to the contacts you want to help haul the boxes where they then can accept.  Accepting and declining is an import part of the process.  Lets say people are going to help you but now you move it to 1 hour later than expected.  If they did not accept the meeting, they will not get the update that you moved it to an hour later and will still have the temporary invite located on their calendar.  Its fun stuff :)
