Hello,

I've got a MIDI USB keyboard that only plays through my computer. So, it's not making any sound at the moment. What basic piece of software will allow me to just hear the notes? Not looking to do any production or composing or anything. Just want to hear it.

Thanks,
Steve

Hi Steve what type of keyboard?
You first need to establish that it has got a means of connecting with your computer.
http://www.musiconmypc.co.uk/art_keyboard_connection.php
Then you'll need the software.
Let me first clarify two things
playing directly from your keyboard to the computer usually done when recording the music from your computer's sound card line in.
If you're considering actually playing the keyboard into the computer and hear it through your speakers

If you are composing through software such as Garageband for windows

FL studio and has fully functioning trial.

These tools have inbuilt keyboard tools

Thank you for the reply.

It came with a USB-USB connection to the computer.

It's an M-Audio 61ES.

I'll check out your links. Thanks again!

Hi Steve thanks back, maybe you could help me look for the manual, maybe I'm old school lol but I find reading the manual is the quickest turn around to solve problems.
open the first panel choose your software and then the model the manual will be listed below
Maybe you can find the exact since you know how it looks, then we could look at the steps.
http://maudio.com/index.php?do=support&tab=manuals
This is one I looked at the proceedure would be the same even if it's not exactly this model.
According to that manual>
1.3 Driver Installation Procedure
Important: Do not connect the USB cable to a computer until you have read and understood the instructions in the Quick Start Guide. A printed copy of this is included in the box and you will also find this on the Keyboard Controller Series CD-ROM.
1.3.3 Using The Axiom with Your Software
When installed, the Axiom appears as a simple MIDI device with two input ports and one output port.
You should select the first listed Axiom input port as the MIDI input device in your software. Once this is set, your software should be able to receive notes
and controller data from the Axiom.
Section 2: Basic MIDI Control From Your Axiom
Your Axiom controller will not make any sound unless it is connected to a computer or other external MIDI gear. This is because the
Axiom sends MIDI data when you play it and does not produce sound on its own. Instead, it is used to control a virtual instrument on
your computer or a MIDI sound module to generate sounds.
Programming MIDI data can get complicated at times, so with the Axiom range of keyboards, we have strived to make MIDI programming
as simple as possible. In this section we look at the most common MIDI messages and how to program them on your Axiom.
So to begin, you should familiarize yourself with the function button panel.
