Remote desktop disconnects on Win 7 pc while viewing win 8.

I have a windows 7 pc (all updates installed recent), that needs to remote desktop to a windows 8 pc (also updates all recent). It seems to connect screen turns black like it is about to view and then disappears and disconnects the session. No errors to show just cannot connect. I can connect the other way around from the win 8 going to win 7. Firewall is allowing for remote desktop so that shouldnt be the issue. We tried connecting to the win 8 pc with on-board video and regular video card so dont think video is the issue either. Any suggestions?

This problem should be at the network layer. Please re-test with a clean win8 machine (no software installed) or preferably vm.

Is it possible to demilitarize that problem box and uninstall all software that could interfere at network level?

No not really. The only program I have installed is Cad software. It already has bare minimum except drivers. Not sure how that software would effect it.

Ok.

So let's have a look at the drivers. If no newer drivers are available (?), insert another NIC, maybe it's a hardware problem (although unlikely).

I tested again with a windows 8 pc, trying to remote to the other windows 8 machine(problem machine), and it does the same thing. Trying to go from admin to admin account so it cant be permissions, or OS issue. It is something on the problem machine I am guessing.
