I've attempted to set a reminder on my Sprint Galaxy S3 phone before and keep having issues as to it not reminding me of the "reminder".  What's the proper way of doing this so I can maybe set a reminder for next week, say Tuesday at 8am?

Do you use the Calendar ? Did you add a notification (for instance, 10 minutes, popup/email)?
Otherwise use Google Keep. Add a note, then set reminder. Sometimes it's more reliable than a calendar item.
