trim string to everything after:

I need to trim this string to everything after the :
the string is:

_KW_COST_247:.07

What I want left is .07 and then to convert it to a double.

You can get the value .07 like this:
select substr(my_column, instr(my_column , ':' ) +1)
from my_table
