The cols value is being overwritten by a CSS rule that sets the width to 164px (line 555 of main.css):

div#wrap form input[type="text"], div#wrap form input[type="password"], div#wrap form input[type="email"], div#wrap form textarea {
    border: 1px solid #D6D6D6;
    border-radius: 2px;
    color: #9B9B9B;
    font-size: 14px;
    font-weight: normal;
    outline: medium none;
    width: 164px;
}

Thanks - how do I leave that css rule but create another one that overrides that one - not an expert on css specificity and classes and all that stuff, What would be the new css rule I add that leaves the status quo but applies to this form?

Your form has an ID of ContactFORM, so if you include that in a new CSS rule, it will override the previous one:

div#wrap form#ContactFORM textarea { width: 500px; }

Open in new window
