My Exchange Server 2007 CCR full backup from the passive node always finished successfully without any issue from the VSS enabled backup software (EMC Avamar) log, however...

Does the database backup is guaranteed to be consistent with circular logging enabled in some of the Mailbox DB ?

circular logging should not be enabled when doing a CCR cluster. You cannot do online backup successfully when circular logging is enabled.

Well, this is done from the passive node as a full backup.

If you are doing Full backups of the Exchange server then the logs should flush themselves after every successful Full Backup. This is why you do not need to have Circular Logging enabled on the passive copy.

ok, but somehow in this case the log is not flushed after the full backup ?

I wonder and worried about the consistency of my Exchange DB backup.

because it seems that I'm on SP3 with no RU and I am experiencing this issue: KB Article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2297394

As you have just stated RU1 has the fix for this. If you have not applied this update then you need to do so, as it will correct your issue with truncating the log files.

This is a known issue with SP3.

Once you have applied the patch to your Exchange servers, make sure that you disable circular logging, perform a full backup and ensure that the logs are cleared.
